Simply speaking, Closed-circuit television (CCTV) is the use of video cameras to transmit a signal to a specific, limited set of monitors. It differs from broadcast television in that the signal is not openly transmitted over the public air waves. Usually a closed circuit television (CCTV) system uses a stand-mounted or hand-held video camera to project a magnified image onto a video monitor or a television (TV) screen. CCTV systems may operate continuously or only as required to monitor a particular event.

The technology of Closed circuit television (CCTV) originated in the 1950s and consisted of two low-resolution black and white cameras. Its main objective was to replace humans for visual security surveillance. In the 1980s, solid state cameras and VCRs were introduced. The resolution was better, but the pictures were still in black and white. In the 1990s, came the transformation to color, and eventually digital video recorders (DVRs) were introduced. Today there are still applications where black & white cameras are used, because they perform much better in low light and IR illuminated applications than the color cameras. And cameras are getting smaller and smaller. Miniature security cameras can today be installed virtually anywhere (such cameras can even include infra-red illumination which enables us to see in the dark).

Traditional video transmission in CCTV is done using 75 ohm coaxial cables. The video signal transmitted is a normal composite video signal, although some systems use Radio Frequency signals. The camera is usually powered by low voltage (typically 12V or 24V) through a local power supply near the camera or a separate power cable fed together with the coaxial cable. There are also some systems which feed the power to the camera through the same coaxial cable where to picture is transported.

Most of the time when these new inventions come out they are not going to have all that great of a digital camera. It will probably be like a 5 or 8 megapixel camera. Which is alright considering it will part of a set of binoculars.

You will be able to have a memory stick or card probably up to around 4 GB. That is a whole lot of picture space for anyone to have on a digital camera. You could have like 2000 pictures on something like that depending on how big the picture is. The other thing is you will have a LCD display with the digital camera that is provided with the set of binoculars. This product is probably going to be very expensive at first but I’m sure you can come up with something of your own to use for awhile before you can afford to buy something like this. This kind of product would probably be sold to schools and people who needed them first. Like I said they would probably be a lot of money to buy and the parts and accessories wouldn’t even be on the market so you would have to order them if something broke and that would take forever to get. So it’s just I think worth it to still have a good digital camera as a backup to take still shots of things. Some Digital Camera Vocabulary Explained

There are many other factors that influence the quality of an image, and so mid range mega pixel size should be perfect for the general user.

Another common abbreviation to be found on packaging is JPEG. This stands for the Joint Photographic Experts Group, which was created in 1986 with the aim of setting a universal standard for the compression of digital camera images. They oversee both the file requirements and the compression process for all JPEG digital cameras. The JPEG process compresses images into streams of bytes which are then decompressed back into the image that was taken. A minimal amount of quality is lost in this process, but it remains the most popular file for storage of digital camera images. This is because JPEG images can be full colour or grey scale, and are internet compatible which means that images can be sent via email to friends and family. The JPEG file is photographic specific and so ensures good quality.

MPEG may be seen on your digital camera and this stands for the Moving Pictures Expert Group which oversees video and audio encoding standards. They are responsible for the compression and decompression of video and audio including that of TV broadcast and digital TV networks. If you see MPEG on a digital camera, it means that it can take video clips as well as images.

LCD is the abbreviation for Liquid Crystal Display and refers to the display screen of your device. The LCD will be full colour and will enable you to preview your picture.
